Worried about how you’re gonna get your Star Wars fix from now until Rogue One or Episode VIII are released? Here is the list of all upcoming Star Wars novels, so you never have to go without.
Leading up to Rogue One, we have a prequel novel penned by James Luceno. Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel will be out on October 4th. Take a gander at the cover:
Following Catalyst, E.K. Johnston has penned an entire novel about everyone’s favorite Force-wielding survivor of Order 66, Ahsoka Tano. Star Wars: Ahsoka will hit shelves on October 11th. (This is not the final book cover art, but it’s done by Dave Filoni, which makes it extra special):
Early 2017 comes the finale of Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath trilogy: Empire’s End. The front cover has been released, but San Diego Comic Con also offered an exclusive glimpse of the back cover, which seems to be Rey’s AT-AT house:
In April of 2017, fans of the old Expanded Universe get a real treat as Timothy Zahn returns to a beloved character that he created. Everybody better strap on their boots for Thrawn:
There’s bound to be much more in between, but these are the latest that we have to look forward to. Get ready to dedicate a brand new shelf to Star Wars books!
Cheers!
I like the idea of an Ahsoka novel, but I’d be happier if it were co-written or at least plotted by Filoni. Or is it?
So… Rogue One is a prequel to A New Hope… and now there’s a prequel to the prequel? (Although it seems to me that Rogue One is not so much a prequel to ANH as an elaboration upon the first two paragraphs of its opening crawl.)
Filoni didn’t write it, but I believe he was involved in the story planning. At the very least, he was there to answer questions, since he mentioned in one of his panels recently that he told the writer what Ashoka thinks and feels about Anakin post-Order 66.
And Star Wars has a long history with “lead-in” books, so Catalyst isn’t all that out of the blue. Though figuring out the subtitle for it was funny. (They tried a few variations previously).
@3: I’m sure Filoni was consulted, but different writers will always approach the same character or plotline differently, so I feel the most authentic version would’ve been Filoni’s firsthand account, as it were. Or at least a book by someone who’s written for Ahsoka on TV.
And yes, I’m aware of the history of SW publishing; I had a copy of Splinter of the Mind’s Eye back in the ’70s. I just think it’s amusing that they’re doing a prequel to something that is itself a prequel.
Gosh, it’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan.
Thrawn! So excited. And I’ll probably end up reading Catalyst and the Ahsoka book, too.
Man, I really need to get caught up. I still want to finish the old EU, and then finish up Clone Wars series (I’ve only seen 2 seasons so far) and then I need to start Rebels. And I haven’t even read any of the ‘new’ canon books.
Not to mention the bajillion other authors I want to stay caught up on (this year I’ve been focusing on Brandon Sanderson’s NON Stormlight books and that’s still quite a feat!, and I kind of want to get caught up on my Guy Gavriel Kay this year too…)
Do get started on Rebels and the Servants of the Empire novels, plus “A New Dawn” I think was the name of the Rebels prequel novel.
